Last eclipse of the moon for almost three years to take place Wednesday night

DURHAM — A total eclipse of the moon will occur starting at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The entire event is visible from most of North America, including Durham Region.

During a total lunar eclipse, the moon can take on a dramatically colourful appearance, from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and, although rarely, even dark grey, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) website said.





Italians recover looted ancient artifacts

Police in Italy announced Tuesday the recovery of dozens of looted artifacts, including a first century fresco and ancient Greek pottery.

Officers broke up a theft ring that operated out of Italy and France, with 31 people under investigation, police said.

Italian police worked with local officials in Switzerland, France and Spain to retrieve the looted artifacts, many of which were illegally removed decades ago.





Grieving parents accept loss of son

The parents of a seven-year-old boy believed to have been swept into the turbulent waters off Tofino five days ago have accepted they’ve lost their son. Now, they just want his body returned.

Garth Cameron of Westcoast Inland Search and Rescue co-ordinated a massive land, air and water search for William Pilkenton along Duffin Cove off Vancouver Island’s west coast that started Friday morning and ended, for the most part, yesterday. In a talk yesterday with parents David and Camilla Pilkenton, from Bellingham, Wash., he promised to bring their boy home.
