WASHINGTON–Eliot Spitzer’s resignation as governor of New York state yesterday completed one of the most stunning falls from power in recent U.S. political history, but more legal problems may loom for a disgraced man who once described himself as a “steamroller.”
A meteoric rise through the Democratic political ranks came to an official, crushing end in less than 2 1/2 minutes when Spitzer, his ashen-face wife Silda Wall Spitzer, once more at his side, told a crush of photographers and journalists that he would step down effective Monday.
